About My Computer Systems

I have had a variety of systems, some of which I still use. All hardware described below is internal to each box unless otherwise specified.

PC Platform

Architecture IBM Compatible hand built PC with VA-503+ motherboard by 1st Mainboard with 1*AGP, 3*PCI, 3*ISA

Previous setup had a P51430VX-250DM Explorer II motherboard with 4*PCI & 3*ISA, but the power supply went taking the board with it.

Hardware Intel Pentium 200 MMX, 128MB RAM, 32GB Harddisk, 1.44MB floppy drive, 8x4x32 CD-RW IomegaZip 650, HP Colorado Tape Streamer, Matrox Mystique 220, m3D PowerVR2, Orchid Righteous 3Dfx, Soundblaster AWE32, RainbowRunner Studio (video capture/output).
Operating Systems Operating systems selectable on boot:
  • LINUX (Mandrake 7.1), this is the default boot option (on 6GB disk) + 10GB data disk
  • Windows98 (on 16GB disk)
  • DOS
 
Software tzsh for UNIX features under Windows, Microsoft Developers Studio 6.0 (including VC++ and VB), too many games to mention but I especially like Microsoft Flight Simulator98 and Jane's submarine simulation 688(I) Hunter/Killer.  
Other Peripherals Panasonic PanaSync5G 17" monitor, Microsoft Mouse, Wacom Pen(cordless) and Tablet, iomega ZIP250 USB version, Primax Rollerball, Logitech Scanman Color 2000 hand scanner, Thrustmaster F16 Combat Stick, Saitek X35T Throttle control, PC Power Joy/Gamepad, Thrustmaster F1 Sprint Racing Wheel and Pedals. BT ISDN2 IgnitionPro Terminal Adapter  

Architecture IBM Compatible re-built PC, ex AST Bravo MS P/100, only original motherboard, processor, case and power supply sourced, all other internals bought or already had.  
Hardware Intel Pentium 100, 64MB RAM, swapable boot Harddisk, 1.44MB floppy drive, x24 CD-ROM , Soundblaster AWE32.
Operating Systems Operating systems selectable on powerup (depends which harddisk is in main drive bay), disks include::
  • Smoothwall - Linux based firewall
  • LINUX (Mandrake 7.1)
  • Windows98
  • WindowsNT
The Smoothwall web proxy and firewall is my main use for this machine.
 
Software Various utilities, this machine is used as a test bed for O/S and software compatability.

Amiga Platform

Architecture Commodore Amiga B2000  
Hardware Motorola 68000, accelerated to 20MHz, 7MB RAM, SCSI board with 500MB hard disk, two 800KB floppy drives, dedicated co-processor hardware including ECS Fat Angus, Gary, Denise, Paula, etc... Amiga
Operating Systems AmigaDOS 2.04 and AmigaDOS 1.3 switchable via ROM selector prior to power on.  
Software tzsh for UNIX features under AmigaDOS, DICE and SAS6.0 C/C++ development environments, HiSoft and AMOS BASIC environments. Tonnes of games and utilities. Photon Paint and Delux Paint.  
Other Peripherals Amiga Mouse, Light Gun, Quickshot joysticks.  

Architecture Commodore Amiga 500  
Hardware Motorola 68000 running at 7.5MHz, 2MB RAM, one 800KB floppy drive plus another external 800KB floppy drive, dedicated co-processor hardware including Fat Angus, Gary, Denise, Paula, etc... Amiga
Operating Systems AmigaDOS 1.3  
Software tzsh for UNIX features under AmigaDOS, Tonnes of music, games and utilities.  
Other Peripherals Amiga Mouse, Light Gun, Quickshot joysticks.  

Spectrum Platform
Architecture Sinclair Spectrum  
Hardware Zilog Z80A, 3.54MHz, 48KB RAM, Z80 bus, tape recorder - for saving/loading software, RF television output. Spectrum
Operating Systems Specturm Basic Interpreter.  
Software Self written assembler/disassembler for coding in assembly language.  
Other Peripherals Interface I with microdrive mass storage device (120KB), Interface II with ROM catridge and joystick slots, Quickshot joysticks, Lightpen.  

Plus I've had other machines such as a Sinclair ZX81, a Memotech 520 (or something like that), and some other ones I can't even remember and used machines such as the BBC micro and Archimides, Oric, Dragon, early Apple's and Mac's.
