Recent Computer Art

Here is a collection of computer art by me, my recent work has been created on a number of PC using a variety of techniques from simple painting programs to complex 3D object tools.

Abstract01
ABS01 Vue d'Esprit 2
An abstract.

Artic #1
Artic02b Vue d'Esprit 2
Composed by me and generated by Vue d'Esprit, it's amazing what modern software can create. And with the simplicity of composition modification that substance based art can only dream about. The submarine object was created by me in Vue which in v2 has only limited object creation but good enough for this sort of object. The power and simplicity of creating 3D generated scenes makes it simple (although still time consuming) to try out alternative compositions, here's an extended idea on the artic theme using the same submarine.

Artic #2
Artic03

Mars Base
Mars base Vue d'Esprit 2
A hydroponics dome, part of the Martian complex near New Constantinople, there's a heavy shuttle landing pad behind. The dome is just a bunch of glass spheres (with vegitation inside).

South America and Greece
Peru Vue d'Esprit 2
Greece
A scene with complicated foliage, and an interesting man made structure deep in the heart of the jungle. Then another scene with ground made using a different technique.

Inside Body
Insides Vue d'Esprit 2
This scene depicts a tiny submersible inside a body, unfortunately this scene proved difficult to render, not only taking a very long tim (hours), but the program kept crashing when it reached the 60% anti-aliasing mark, so I had to interrupt it before then. I'm still working on this scene, especially planning to put some texture on the submersible.

Island01
Island Vue d'Esprit 2
Another scene using the first object I created, the submarine, this time visiting a small pacific island.

Desert02 and 04
Desert2 Vue d'Esprit 2
Desert4
I was playing around with the landcsape, textures, lighting and haze. I first the view of a desert building, not a nice place to work I think, not unless you want to get away from it all. Afterwards I used one of the pre-created objects (airship) over another desert terrain to play some more with lighting.

Table01
Table Vue d'Esprit 2
A traditional object grouping, a tropical setting, a table looking over the sea, ah, just relax and enjoy.

Undersea01 and 02
Undersea01 Vue d'Esprit 2
After some false starts I finally figured out how to get a good under water affect, although it takes many hours to render on my 500MHz machine, time for a power upgrade I think.

Submarine Sunrise - Late Again
Undersea02 Vue d'Esprit 2
Now I'm getting more ambitious with the package and really creating compositions I might even paint. This is not at all the simple submarine I first created but a much more complex version including flat deck, snorkel, scope, fins and planes, and a better body design. The small boat is a Vue supplied object but the person is one created by me using just spheres and cylinders, looks ok from this distance and lighting though.

The Big Wave
BigWave Vue d'Esprit 2
This guy is in real trouble, out in a small boat, storm's a brewing and there's a big wave rising. Same boat and persons as in the previous work, but now I've figured out how to add an interesting sort of wake to the boat. I've thougt an even better way, but this image took 1 hour 10 minutes to render so I'll improve the wake another time.

FS2002 Viper - Work in Progress
Viper GMAX for Flight Simulator 2002
I'm a big fan of Battlestar Galactica, so I thought I'd make a Colonial Viper for Flight Simulator 2002, which is one of the best simulators I've ever flown. The version you see here is a fully working flight model, with realistic Viper characteristics including the big 'kick up the back side' you would get when hitting the turbo button. I spent quite a while working on the flight model so the graphics model fell behind, unfortunately I've not progressed on it lately.

Dolphins
Dolphins Vue d'Esprit 2
A serene setting to rest, take in the fresh air and view these wonderful mammals playing in the water.
