Oils
Here is a collection of oil paintings by me. Select the thumbnail displayed to see the full resolution image. The size of the original is displayed next to each thumbnail.
Turn Into Wind

20"x16"
I used to read naval fiction, Alexander Kent mostly (the Bolitho series),
this painting was inspired by the books and the film Captain Horatio Hornblower
(played excellently by Gregory Peck), which has been one of my favourites since I was a kid.
Freedom

20"x16"
Is she falling or flying - you decide.
Salvation

A5
I was in a pretty heavy mood when I did this one.
The Mill

A5
The third rendition of a fantasy scene I did in a classical, an impressionist and
(the above) expressionist versions. I designed the scene to contain all the sort of things I would need to
practice alternative methods for a landscape including water, trees, land, sky and a building, I left out
mountains for another scene.
The Famous Grouse

20"x18"
If you drink whiskey you'll know all about the Famous Grouse brand of whiskey. This painting is my variation
of the image on the bottle, it's pretty close to the original, especially the grouse which I copied precisely, the landscape less so.
Mrs John Douglas

24"x18"
A copy of a Thomas Gainsborough painting I did for my mother who has always
wanted to have this sort of painting, now I just have to frame it (an expensive task).
Sails at Sunset

(A5)/2
I like sail ships, this is a small oil sketch I did one afternoon, just because I wanted too.
Approach to the forest moon of Endor

A4
Never seen in the original film (episode VI), here's the team passing through the clouds of the forest moon of Endor
on the way to their famous attack on the deflector dish (see below) which allowed ships of the New Republic fleet to penetrate and
destroy the second Death Star. I am particularly proud of how well the shuttle came out.
The Deflector Dish on the forest moon of Endor

A4
I do scifi/photorealistic backdrops for 'trick' photography work, this is a
copy I did (on A4 paper) of a Lucas Film backdrop used in Star Wars Episode VI.
See specials for more examples of this.
Mountain View

20"x16"
A pretty mountain landscape using the Wet on wet technique, as taught
by Bob Ross on TV. I'd stopped doing oils for a while, but after watching
The Joy of Painting on PSBN (while I was in the US), I was re-inspired
to get back to painting - thanks Bob (rip).
Fantasy Land 02

A4
A fantasy landscape used as a practice painting.
Fawn in forest

20"x18"
Another painting with the background in the style of Bob Ross, but I've
included a fawn for a more interesting view than simply some trees and water.
Nutty the Squirrel

20"x18"
I live near a park which is full of grey squirrels, the one shown here is brown, we
do have some native red squirrels left in the UK, their ears are more pointed than the imported American grey squirrels.
Deer in Forest

20"x18"
An early animal painting, a cute deer in a forest with the sun filtering through the trees.
Tiger

20"x18"
A tiger done in a pictorial style. Tigers are fabulous animals, truly awesome, and I'm planning to do
another painting of one, chasing something, bounding through water, very soon.
Kingfisher

20"x18"
One of my first real animal paintings, done in 1989 from a photo of a Kingfisher and an imaginary
background. You can see that my trees were not that good at the time, something I am still working on!
