I have been trying to get an interesting shot of the obelisk in Trent Park, Enfield, for a long time without any real success, but finally, with this Infra Red shot, I think I have captured it in an interesting style. I used a Hoya R72 (89B) Infra Red filter and shot in RAW+JPEG with my 7D on a tripod because I needed a 10 second exposure for the shot. The image here was developed from the RAW file and has had no modifications done other than desaturating the image to get a black and white image rather than a black and red one which results from an IR exposure
Not many Sanpans left now, the traditional wooden boats which double as houses and transportation.
The Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpua, until 2004 the worlds tallest buildings.
A mysterious place with strange energies and a spooky feeling. Originally taken on a totally overcast day in colour, my old photograph had faded so rather than try to recover the colours I decided to turn it into a much moodier photograph by using monochrome and adjusting the contrast, balance and sky of the picture, it's now more art than photo
The same obelisk, this time in heavy fog. Taken with my Minolta X-700 and (if I remember right) Fuji Neopan-400 black and white film
Both the building and the bus stop sign reach for the sky, here just outside the Tate Britain building
Dating from the 12th century, the Cathedral of our Lady, Antwerp, is a must visit with its gothic lace stone work. This is a very old photo taken with my X-700 back in 1991 when I first arrived there
There is an elevator to the top and you can walk down through the spheres which house exhibitions and down through the arms, which are just interesting in themselves, you do't really get a feel for the size unless you go inside it
One of the most beautiful town squares anywhere, de Grote Markt or Grand-Place, a market has been held there since the 12th century with the town hall completed in 1455
This shot of the northern city wall gives some impression of the huge scale of the walls
Just how much power this house was using for it's holiday lighting is anyones guess
Is there a single window not broken, actually no, I really don't think so
Just one of the pyramids at Giza, just outside Cairo. A couple of seconds after I took this shot, the Police man in the foreground chased away the camel rider, whipping him and his camel as they ran off into the distance. The camel riders get unsuspecting tourists onto their camels, then demand large sums of money before the tourists are allowed to dismount. Beware, everyone seems very friendly, but they're just after your cash. They can get very pushy and things can get ugly if you're not careful, be firm is the best advice I can give, and never take anything into your hand, even when offered as a 'free gift'
A very famous hotel, the Negresco has an oppulent almost gaudy style, but they are very touchy about being photographed inside so here is the front door with a typical statue, you get the idea
Right next to our hotel, the Mercator, which was on the Promenade des Anglais (the place to be in Nice), was a Casino, but a little further down was the main, and very Art Deco, Nice Casino (they seem to like casinos there)
We paid a visit to the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St Nicolas, really beautiful but located in a not so beautiful area of Nice
A 4 shot combined image of a church at sunset, the final image was nearly 30MPixel so plenty of scope to print this shot very large
Another boat on a roof, and this time a giant ceramic pot in the foreground
And a view across Oia
Looking back down into the bay
The dome is a big white and under utilised structure, photographically elegant but somewhat difficult to get a good clear shot of it unless you hunt around, in my case I went into a possibly private development to get this shot - with the laws going the way they are this could be a criminal act in the near future - which is nuts. This is a 3 element panoramic image
Tower Bridge in the fog.
A number of large and impressive bridges link the islands of New York, here the Brooklyn cross the East River, here we look back at Manhattan
It was an ambition of mine to get to the top, and the view was as stunning as I had imagined
Ever since I was a child I have always like this most amazing building, the tallest in the world from 1931 until 1973 when the World Trade Centre took the crown. Built in 1 year and 45 days it has 102 floors and is 1,453 feet, 8 9/16 inches or 443.2 meters to the top of the lightning rod. A little known fact is that above the observation deck is a parking station for airships which never saw active service due to the Hindenburg disaster at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in neighbouring New Jersey on 6th May 1937
We walked down the park to the City of Arts and Sciences - the most amazing architectural sight I have seen for quite some time. The cone is actually an entrance to a lift, the structure behind is a kind of glass-less glass house
A closeup of the architecture of the museum. The Spanish are very aware of their architecture, nothing seems accidental.
Wat Phra Kaeo serves as the royal chapel and no monks live there.
