I have been trying to get an interesting shot of the obelisk in Trent Park, Enfield, for a long time without any real success, but finally, with this Infra Red shot, I think I have captured it in an interesting style. I used a Hoya R72 (89B) Infra Red filter and shot in RAW+JPEG with my 7D on a tripod because I needed a 10 second exposure for the shot. The image here was developed from the RAW file and has had no modifications done other than desaturating the image to get a black and white image rather than a black and red one which results from an IR exposure
A mysterious place with strange energies and a spooky feeling. Originally taken on a totally overcast day in colour, my old photograph had faded so rather than try to recover the colours I decided to turn it into a much moodier photograph by using monochrome and adjusting the contrast, balance and sky of the picture, it's now more art than photo
The same obelisk, this time in heavy fog. Taken with my Minolta X-700 and (if I remember right) Fuji Neopan-400 black and white film
These bluebells were already beautiful but very familiar, so I turned them into a dramatic monochrome image to add some mystery
Another of my aircraft series (see Technology), this one is an artistic rendition of a pair of Camels on patrol, the full colour image was tinted and cropped to give it an authentic early 1900s feel. The aircraft are actually the same one photographed at the RAF Museum Hendon
During a shopping trip with my wife, I got bored and started snapping closeups, fortunately nobody tried to stop me here in M&S
Getting a good shot in New York is like shooting fish in a barrel, too easy, so I tried to make my own version of that famous yellow cab scene where everything else is monochrome, turn out quite decent I think
I put a few crystals of sugar down and sure enough a short while later the ants had found the treat and were busy taking it back to their nest. I converted this to monochrome as I think it gives the image a more worker feel. Look in the hard nature link in Nature for more a disturbing view of ants
These children pause in their play to munch at the treats we provided. You can find the colour version of this picture in my Trips (Thailand) page
Eat at Joe's says this old style yellow cab in Vancouver, Canada, I never did. This one with a black and white background is a slightly modified version of the one in my Vancouver page, which I think works better as the contrast in the age of the vehicles was too high and made the picture uncomfortable, now it is more balanced
Taking the power rafting ride give one a chance to experience the fast flowing river and the falls up close, in fact the boats actually go into a small cascade and you get truly soaked unless you cover up really well. Here I have gone for an arty shot of part of the falls, I actually managed to get a 2 element panoramic from the boat though it was very difficult of course as the boat was bobbing around as I tried to exactly line up the 2nd element to the edge of the first, the spray made the colours fade somewhat which is why I have turned this into a monochrome image
With its colonial and imperial history, London is full of ancient items from other countries, the British Museum for example has almost nothing British in it at all. Here a Sphinx taken from Egypt sits by the Thames near Embankment. This photograph was taken in 1999 but the scan was quite poor so I have tried to recover it, I will get a better version or re-take the photo the next time I am in central
