Down the A1000 not far from Potters Bar there is a small pond, which here you see totally frozen over during some very cold weather. This panoramic, taken on my 7D was made up of 4 elements, taken in portrait to maximise the vertical view |
![]() |
After 2 years of having my 7D some snow fell, it was a work morning but I had it covered so I rushed out to finally get some photos of snow, this square-shaped landscape, reminiscent of some medium and large format cameras apect ratio works very well for this shot which was made by taking two adjacent shots and joining them to make a 10MPixel photo. |

England really is a green and pleasant land. Another panoramic, taken with my Coolpix 3100, made up of multiple elements, by this time I had mastered the technique |
![]() |
Probably the most stunning and typical type of change the British countryside goes through is in spring when our fields turn yellow, it really is gorgeous to look at. Still no blue sky though, but the clouds here added to the atmosphere of the scene if not to the colour. This was one of the first panoramics I did with my 7D |
![]() |
A picture postcard typical view of English countryside, rolling hills, cottages, cows, stream and all. I took this as a 2 element panoramic with a polarising filter so I had to be careful with my angles to avoid nasty affects in the sky |
![]() |
It was a cold and foggy London morning, I set out early to get some good fog photos but did not expect to find this almost completely sunken boat on the Lee, I took a lot of photos of it, this one a 4 element panoramic. I have not colour corrected this photo as my Minolta 7D captured the scene exactly as I remember it, playing with levels and curves does give a clearer picture but spoils the reality of the misting |
![]() |
And another one, this time the sky looks like it's on fire. This one is a big panoramic made up of 4 elements |
![]() |
With the warm wet autumn of 2006 mushrooms were plentiful, as you can see from this panoramic I took in Epping Forest |

Take the trip into the high Andes and you can go from a hot dry climate ... |

Over 70% of the falls are on the Argentinian side, so one gets a better overall view from the Brazilian side but a better walking experience from the Argentinian side, so I would recommend doing both if you have the time. Here I've made a massive panoramic with 6 elements from the Argentinian walkway |
![]() |
... to the snow capped mountains in a couple of hours |

I went to the festival back in 1993 when I took 2 adjacent shots of Ghent by the river. I must thave planned to slice them together digitally as I owned a Commodore Amiga which had some very advanced graphics capabilities for the time, but I only just got round to doing this - 12 years late, and on my Linux box instead. |

A panorama view from my first apartment, to the left the cathedral, to the right the station |
![]() |
Then we hired a local guide to give us a personal tour, being a local she took us to some very out of the way but beautiful spots like this small village |
![]() |
From Sugar Loaf Mountain one gets a great view of Copacabana, the cable car which takes you up there is pretty neat too |
![]() |
Over 70% of the falls are on the Argentinian side, so one gets a better overall view from the Brazilian side but a better walking experience from the Argentinian side, so I would recommend doing both if you have the time. Here I've made a massive panoramic with 5 elements from the Brazilian walkway |

So we booked a taxi for one day which took us to the small fishing town you can see from above in this panoramic |
![]() |
Taking the power rafting ride give one a chance to experience the fast flowing river and the falls up close, in fact the boats actually go into a small cascade and you get truly soaked unless you cover up really well. Here I have gone for an arty shot of part of the falls, I actually managed to get a 2 element panoramic from the boat though it was very difficult of course as the boat was bobbing around as I tried to exactly line up the 2nd element to the edge of the first, the spray made the colours fade somewhat which is why I have turned this into a monochrome image |
![]() |
The Brazilian path around the falls takes you to this amazing pier where you can walk out over the water and into the spray from near the Devil's Throat which is one of the major cascades. Here a 3 element panoramic captures the pier and surrounding environment |
![]() |
This time looking north, on a Sunday the beach side of the road closes for people to walk down. At the left is you can see the top of Sugar Loaf mountain |
![]() |
Shared between Brazil and Argentina, Iguazu is an amazing collection of 275 cascades. See here and here for more information, and look at the Argentina Iguazu page for more pictures (see link at bottom of page) |

For much of the year up to 15m depth of flood waters extend over 100km out in all directions from the river, flooding a vast area of land. This panoramic consists of 4 elements and was taken from a small boat which pushed and nudged its way through the trees |
![]() |
At the left, looking south along Copacabana beach, to the right in the distance, Corcovado Mountain. This panoramic consists of 4 elements and was taken from the roof of our hotel, the 4 star Excelsior Copacabana, which we booked directly off the internet and I would throughly recommend |
![]() |
This near the Devil's Throat gives one a great impression of the different number and levels of the falls but one has to go and experience the sheer scale |
![]() |
From Corcovado one gets an even bigger view of the whole of Rio, including Sugar Loaf |
![]() |
Lokrum is the nearest island and has pebble beaches you can swim from, it's a short and regular boat ride away, taken from the old port for only 3 euros return, this panoramic photo is on the Adriatic side, move round to the inland side for calmer seas. The islet is walkable (there are no vehicles on it) and has an old monastery with an arboretum worth visiting in the right season |
![]() |
Dubrovnik Old Town as seen from the hills to the SE. The Old Town is the place to see and be, if you can afford to stay there or nearby do so as otherwise you will need to (cheap) bus or (expensive) taxi ride into town for each visit. This photo is a 2 element panoramic showing the beautiful walled city looking down into the old port |
![]() |
In the Akamas peninsular roads are few and rough, here to the far left you see the 7km dirt track we spent nearly 4 hours navigating in our rental car, it was difficult - book a 4x4 early, they didn't have any when we went so we risked it in the car but a puncture would have put us in a very difficult position in the 40 celcius heat of the day hours from support (so we took lots of water too). Turtle bay is certainly worth a visit, further down there is a visitor station |
![]() |
Pafos has been a great city for thousands of years, and its ancient history is slowly being uncovered here, the site is certainly worth a long visit, we went at 2pm, which was great as there were few crowds, but it was almost 40 celcius and little shade available |
![]() |
To the north of Aya Napa is Protaras, in high season the soft sandy beaches are full so get there early. The water is much warmer on this side of the island than on the western side, more like a hot tub than just a bath ![]() |
![]() |
St Lazarus, he whom Christ did raise from the dead, went to Cyprus to spread the word, and in Larnaca is a church dedicated to him, which includes his (now empty) crypt and a small portion of his skull (in the gold "ebidafion" to the right), which one may kiss |
![]() |
Being a port, you can take a glass bottom boat or various sporty or pirate type ships out for various trips |
![]() |
It is quite a small church in comparison to some, but one of the oldest and built to last with many Roman style arches which would have been the main architectural style at the time |
![]() |
Near Aya Napa is another peninsular worth visiting, but if you want to relax and swim you need to get there early in high season |

Court yard of the Royal Palace Amalienborg (actually the winter residence), where members of the public can enter and visit |
![]() |
A view from the 6th floor inside the hotel |
![]() |
This view must be experienced as no photograph can possibly convey the scale of these structures, you'll just have to go and see. Two weeks before our trip 9 German tourists were killed at the museum in Cairo (also part of our tour), two weeks after my visit over over 65 tourists were killed on the same tour I was on, and to finish off, a week later the sister ship of the one we were on caught fire and sank. I guess my sister Helen and I were just lucky! |

Nice has a lovely sea front too |

It was a bright summers day and Greenwich park was filled with sunbathers, to the far left the City can just be seen, Docklands and Greenwich take centre spot in this picture with the Dome to the right. This panoramic consists of 3 elements and was taken from the Royal Observatory which has a free museum and is certainly worth the short but steep walk up the hill |
![]() |
A closer view slightly to the left of the above view, showing activity on the river and HMS Belfast |
![]() |
![]() |
The dome is a big white and under utilised structure, photographically elegant but somewhat difficult to get a good clear shot of it unless you hunt around, in my case I went into a possibly private development to get this shot - with the laws going the way they are this could be a criminal act in the near future - which is nuts. This is a 3 element panoramic image |

The Thames waters are rising so to prevent London from flooding the barrier was built. It is basically a giant movable wall to hold the surge waters back. For more info see here. When I took this photo it was a dull day so I've increased the saturation on this photo, a first for me, I could have made it black and white, but I didn't want to loose the yellow painted metal parts of the barrier |

Houses of Parliment viewed from the South Bank near the Millenium Wheel, taken with my tiny little Olympus mju-II |
![]() |
![]() |
A view looking over the Thames encompassing London old and new with the Tower of London and several skyscrapers beyond. This was an early panoramic taken with my little Nikon Coolpix 3100, a great little machine but limited manual controls preventing me from getting an even exposure across the 2 frames which make up this panoramic. I will take this shot again sometime, but in the meantime I will try to digitally update this version to make it smoother |
![]() |
A more recent shot of Parliment taken from much further away than the above shot, not modified digitally and a small amount of perspective shift can still be seen |
![]() |
Two old photos put together into a small panorama, I will do a proper wider one of this scene soon, for now this should give you a taste. This image has also been digitally corrected for perspective as I could not afford a shift lens |
![]() |
Moored in the Thames, London UK, she is a naval museum and a site worth seeing, note Tower Bridge in the distance behind her |
![]() |
You can also eat opposite the port, in the harbour area, with a great view of the sea. The larger yacht-restaurant in this picture was once owned by the Beatles and if you book a seat on the actual boat you will hear the Fab Four's music played - all the time. The boat is now in a dry dock so you can walk onto it from the seafront. |
![]() |
This is a view of the harbour from the city, it is a 3 element panoramic image. This was later in the day when the blue sky had left |
![]() |
This is a view of the city from the harbour, it is a 4 element panoramic image of over 20M Pixels |
The Circle Line tour of Liberty and Ellis islands. There is a museum below the statue but if you intend to go up to the crown get to Battery Park to catch the ferry (Metro lines 1 or 9 to South Ferry) VERY early. See the NYC Subway Map |
![]() |
A slightly unusual view of NYC, the building to our right of the chimneys is the Unitied Nations (UN) building, this shot was taken from Roosevelt Island which is a very small island in the East River serviced by a cable car, as seen in the movie Spiderman. This shot is made up from two closely taken shots which although were not planned as a panoramic did allow me to get additional width on the scene |
![]() |
Shared between Brazil and Paraguay, Itaipu is a dam with the largest hydroelectric power plant with the highest output. See here and here for more information. This panoramic is made up of 5 elements, it took that many to try and capture this enourmous construction, but my photograph needs some work still and I still could not have the spill control section in this photo which is also huge |

The view of downtown from Space Needle. ![]() |

In the Piazza della Vergogna, it is known locally as the Fountain of Shame due to the nude statues, see here for more details |

Catania had some great beaches, here with a very good view of Etna, which errupted just two weeks after we left |
![]() |
The Teatro Greco, one of the most celebrated sites in Sicily, must be seen, even for the quite steep entry price |
![]() |
Looking back at the L'Hemisferic we see behind it the enourmous unfinished arts building housing a massive theatre. If you get thirsty try Orxata (pronounced orchada) from the sellers here (or anywhere come to that) which is a very refreshing sweet drink made from chufa (a seed) or tiger nuts |
![]() |
The nearest building (in the water) seen here houses an IMAX cinema, and planetarium and even a laserium in the dome, the large one behind is the main museum. In the distance behind you can see the Oceanografic |
![]() |
The chapel here must be visited, attend a service to get a real feel for the place, people seem to come and go at will |
![]() |
The octagonal Miguelete bell tower of the cathedral is worth the climb of the 207 steps of the very narrow spiral stone stair case. This panoramic is made up of 3 elements but they didn't fit together very well, I will redo this picture soon |

A plaza in the Maria Luisa Park built in 1929 for an exposition, this astonishing piece of architecture was used for the Royal Palace on Naboo in Star Wars. This panoramic image is slightly rough, I will fix it and upload a new version when I get time |

The bullfighting ring was built in the 1700s AD and restored in the 1900s. Currently fights are held Sundays between mid April and October, 6 bulls are killed each Sunday with each fight taking around 20 minutes. Horse riders first attack the bull, spearing it to weaken it before the ground attack can commence. A group of less experience trainee type matadors then further weaken it until finally the matador enters for the final duel and the kill. Tyrone Power played a famous bullfighter Juan Gallardo in Blood and Sand, the costumes he wore were exact replicas of a real famous bull fighter Francisco Gómez Delgado (Armallita). This panoramic image still needs some work |
![]() |
To the left you can see the cathedral high on Cathedral Hill, the current building dates from around the mid 14th century though there have been other cathedrals there for 500 years beforehand. On the banks of the Rhein there are some equally old buildings and one of many bridges which cross the river at Basel. This panoramic was one of the first times I took multiple images, initially stiched together by hand, it was many years after the photos were taken that I finally had the software capable of joining these together to a high standard. |

A (not very good) panoramic view of El Jem, but it should give you an idea of how the place looked. The original photos were taken on my tiny 35mm film Olympus mju-II, then scanned with my Epson Perfection 1250 scanner and joined together using ArcSoft Panorama Maker |
